Cornerstone Family Violence Prevention Centre – Statement Regarding COVID-19

In Community

As the Province begins to reopen we wanted to provide an update to our community on our ongoing service modifications.

Cornerstone Family Violence Prevention Centre (Cornerstone) continues to steadfastly support our community and clients during the COVID-19 pandemic. We are doing our best to appropriately respond and follow the ongoing recommendations of government, public health and ministry authorities while adhering to our internal policies and procedures, and our strong agency values.

In response to the evolving information and precautions, our service delivery remains modified to protect both our clients and our staff. Despite these service modifications, our client-centred approach to serving our community remains.

Our shelter remains open and our staff continue to work with the community to ensure people our housed safely. Counselling and outreach appointments are taking place virtually and our staff are continuing to work remotely, where possible. Groups and workshops have been cancelled until further notice to adhere to recommendations on physical distancing. We have outfitted our facilities and staff with personal protective equipment and enhanced our already rigorous cleaning and sanitization protocols.

Our 24-hour support line continues to be answered as usual. Those in need of support can call us any time: 905-372-0746

We recognize that calling is not always easy, or safe. You can also text or chat with us online:

Text: 289-210-4774 | Online Chat: cornerstonenorthumberland.ca/connect
Please note: Text and Online Chat are available 7 days a week, from noon to 8:00 p.m. Our services are always free of charge, secure, and completely confidential. If you need support, please reach out.

If you are in immediate danger, call 911.

While we are still unable to accept donations of clothing and physical household items, other organizations have begun to accept and collect them. We have strong partnerships with local consignment and thrift stores who would appreciate receiving your spring cleaning finds.

For a list of alternative donation locations, please contact Carly at 905-375-8483 or ccunningham@cornerstonenorthumberland.ca.

Financial donations are always warmly welcomed and appreciated and can be made through our website at cornerstonenorthumberland.ca/donate.

We recognize that these are exceptional times and information is changing rapidly. The most up-to-date information regarding service delivery will always be made available to the public through Cornerstone’s social media channels and on our website: cornerstonenorthumberland.ca.

At this time we would also like to thank our community partners, donors, board members and our staff for their continued support as we collectively navigate this extraordinary time. Though we all may be apart, we will most certainly get through this together.
