The community of Campbellford held a parade on Saturday, April 25, 2020 to thank essential workers.

The parade made up of over 100 vehicles including mainly tractors (from lawn tractors to large tractors), but also including fire trucks, paramedics, OPP, muscle cars, antique cars started at the Fair Grounds and made it’s way to Campbellford Memorial Hospital then on to Burnbrae Gardens Long Term Care Home.

The parade was bigger than the town’s Santa Claus parade and t was a way for the community to thank health care and essential workers.

People came out of their homes, but at all times kept social distancing from others to watch the parade go through town.

Municipality of Trent Hills Fire Chief Tim Blake said the idea for the event came from councillor Eugene Brahaney.

“It was just asking about getting some tractors together to do a drive-past,” said Blake.

“We went over how it would work, then he went and did all the leg work. The Fair Board got involved.”

“It just shows, not only our community, but communities across Canada how we’re pulling together in this very difficult time.”

“It was a great tribute to our front line workers, our emergency responders.”

“If this (COVID-19) hadn’t of happened, where else would you see a group from the farming community, get together with a group of firefighters, a group of police officers, paramedic, community is in there with old cars, motorcycles, lawn tractors – it shows we’re going to beat this thing. And we’re going to do it together.”
