The Ontario government is making critical investments in small, rural and northern communities. Through the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund (OCIF), Ontario is providing $200 million to 424 communities to help them with critical infrastructure project and giving them flexibility to address their changing needs.
This year, Northumberland – Peterborough South will receive more than $4 million across the riding to address important local community infrastructure needs. This year’s OCIF allocation represents an increase of over $1.45 million since 2018.
“We remain committed to providing stable and predictable infrastructure funding to address local priorities while reducing administrative burden on local governments,” said MPP David Piccini. “This funding will help build and repair roads, bridges, water and wastewater infrastructure, and support asset management planning projects in our riding.”

This is an important contribution to the health and vitality of our community.”
Recognizing that municipalities have different infrastructure needs, the province uses a straightforward and transparent formula that examines various social and economic factors to determine funding allocations across the province.

- The Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund provides stable and predictable funding for communities with populations under 100,000, along with all rural and northern communities.
- Our investment of $200 million in formula-based funding in 2019, and again in 2020, was allocated to small, rural and northern communities.
- Municipalities may accumulate their formula funding for up to five years to address larger infrastructure projects.
- Ontario also provides funding to communities through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP), a $30-billion, 10-year infrastructure program cost-shared between federal, provincial and municipal governments. Ontario’s share per project will be up to 33.33 per cent, or $10.2 billion spread across four streams: Rural and Northern, Public Transit, Green, and Community, Culture and Recreation.
