Marriage Marathon Takes Place At Victoria Hall On Valentine’s Day

In Editor Choice, Local

It was a “marriage marathon” at Victoria Hall on Friday, February 14, 2020 as weddings took place one after another throughout the day.

Cobourg’s Marriage Officiant, Brent Larmer (Manager of Legislative Services) spearheaded the idea in an effort to promote the wedding services that the Town of Cobourg offers.

Mark Johnston and Kevin Kelly tied the knot in front of friends and family.

Johnston said, the history of Victoria Hall, “and the energy of something that’s been around for long long that has such tradition, that brings a very strong Canadian energy felt like a beautiful place for us to connect and secure our union.”

Kelly was born and raised in Arizona said the wedding was beautiful.

“The energy of Victoria Hall was absolutely amazing. It’s stunningly beautiful. The old courtroom is absolutely fantastic and what we wanted for our union.”

Johnston added, “when you walk through the doors and step down to the sunken courtroom there is an energy that opens for you, that feels very steeped in tradition. So to make our wedding vows in this space was absolutely perfect.”

The couple have family members in Cobourg, and came over Christmas.

They were both so impressed by Cobourg, a week later they put and offer in and it was accepted.

“So we’ll now have a home by the lake and a home in the dessert,” said Johnston.

“Seeing family and friends come together for such a sacred day was such a boost to the heart. To see people happy and celebrating. We need more of that energy on the planet. There is to much negative – to much pain and suffering. So to bring people together to celebrate two humans coming together in love on Valentine’s Day was the best thing possible.”
