Update – Cobourg Police – Arrests Made in Break and Enter, Theft of Vehicle and Arson

On October 3rd, 2019, the Cobourg Police Service commenced an investigation into a break and enter at a north end car dealership where two vehicles were stolen. Later that same day a male party was arrested in southern Ontario in one of the stolen vehicles. The other stolen vehicle was located later abandoned in Cobourg.

On October 6th, 2019, the Cobourg Police responded to fire at Chadwick’s Towing on Veronica Street in Cobourg. After investigation it was believed that the fire was deliberately set to hide the theft of two more vehicles.

After a lengthy criminal investigation, two male suspects were identified and warrants issued for their arrest.

In relation to the Car Dealership break and enter and vehicle thefts on October 3rd, 2019:

21-year-old Ingersoll resident, Kyle LOGAN was arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code Offences:

1. Theft Under $5000 contrary to section 334(b) of the Criminal Code
2. Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 contrary to section 354(1) of the Criminal Code
3. Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 contrary to section 354(1) of the Criminal Code
4. Fail to Comply with Undertaking contrary to section 145(5.1) of the Criminal Code

36-year-old London resident, James Robert WESTOVER was arrested and charged with the following offences:
1. Fail to Comply with an undertaking contrary to section 145(5.1)

Both males were jointly charged with the following offences:
1. Break, Enter and Commit Indictable Offence contrary to section 348(1)(b) of the Criminal Code
2. Theft Under $5000 contrary to section 334(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada
3. Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 contrary to section 354(1) of the Criminal Code
4. Theft of Motor Vehicle contrary to section 333.1(1) of the Criminal Code
5. Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over contrary to section 355(a) of the Criminal Code
6. Theft of Motor Vehicle contrary to section 333.1(1) of the Criminal Code
7. Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over contrary to section 355(a) of the Criminal Code

James Robert Westover was also charged with the following offences in relation to the Arson and theft of vehicles on October 6th, 2019 at Chadwick’s Towing:

1. Break, Enter and Commit Indictable Offence contrary to section 348(1)(b) of the Criminal Code
2. Theft of Motor Vehicle contrary to section 333.1(1) of the Criminal Code
3. Theft of Motor Vehicle contrary to section 333.1(1) of the Criminal Code
4. Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over contrary to section 355(a) of the Criminal Code
5. Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 contrary to section 354(1) of the Criminal Code
6. Arson-Damage Property contrary to section 434 of the Criminal Code
7. Trafficking in Property Obtained by Crime contrary to section 355.2 of the Criminal Code

Kyle LOGAN appeared before a bail hearing on December 3rd, 2019 in Cobourg.

James Robert WESTOVER appeared before a bail hearing on January 16th, 2020 in Cobourg.
