Community Care Northumberland’s Enhanced Rural Living Subsidy Program Stats Announced

In Community

Community Care Northumberland (CCN) is pleased to announce the impact statistics of its Enhanced Rural Living Program. This program is funded from July 1st, 2019 to June 30th, 2020 by the Northumberland United Way’s Community Impact Investment Fund.

The Enhanced Rural Living Program provides a financial subsidy to CCN’s low income clients to assist them in remaining safe, healthy and independent in their own homes and communities.

The subsidy allows them to access programs like Meals on Wheels and Home Help. It also allows them to access transportation to medical appointments or dialysis that they otherwise would not be able to afford.

The Meals on Wheels program provides hot or frozen, affordable meals delivered to clients’ homes and the Home Help program provides a brokered worker to assist clients with basic household tasks. CCN also provides both volunteer drivers and fully accessible vans to transport clients where they need to go.

The financial subsidy is equally available to residents of Northumberland County based on need however particular attention will be paid to residents who live in rural areas where other services may not be available.

As of July 1st, 2019, CCN has been able to subsidize:
· 113 Meals On Wheels (hot and frozen)
· 124 Home Help hours
· 88 Medical drives (Volunteer and Specialized one-way trips)
· 216 Dialysis drives (Volunteer and Specialized one-way trips)

“I am always amazed at the support the community provides to the Northumberland United Way’s annual fundraising campaign,” said Trish Baird – CCN’s Executive Director. “We were especially pleased to receive a $35,000 grant from them to fund this subsidy program. It had been previously funded by a grant that we were no longer able to access but these subsidies were still needed by residents in our community and the United Way’s funding allowed us to maintain this program.”

“Our statistics prove the need for this program and together with the Northumberland United Way we have improved the quality of life for low income individuals who live in the rural areas of our County with both in-home or transportation supports,” added Baird.
