Flood Warning Down Graded For The First Time Since May

In Weather

Lower Trent Conservation is downgrading the Flood Warning that has been effect since May 9, 2019 to a Flood Watch for the Lake Ontario shoreline from Grafton to Quinte West and the Bay of Quinte shoreline within Quinte West.

Water levels recorded at Cobourg measured 75.28 metres (IGLD-International Great Lakes Datum) yesterday and have dropped approximately 64 cm from the record setting daily average of 75.92 metres last recorded on June 15, 2019. As water levels still remain 54 cm above average for the month of September (74.74 metres), there continues to be a risk of flooding during periods of strong onshore winds and erosion damages from high waves.

Lower Trent Conservation also urges residents to take care along the shoreline and while on the water. Unsafe/unstable banks may exist due to recent erosion and high water. Wave action has also deposited debris along shorelines and beaches. Floating debris could cause hazardous conditions for boaters.

Property owners are reminded that any restoration or repair work along the shoreline (e.g., placement of fill, armour stone, etc.) will require a permit from Lower Trent Conservation and should call the office at 613-394-4829 or visit the website (www.LTC.on.ca) for more information.

Lower Trent Conservation monitors water levels and weather forecasts closely as part of its flood forecasting and warning program. Water level updates are available at www.LTC.on.ca. If you have concerns about water levels, please contact Lower Trent Conservation at (613) 394-4829.

This Flood Watch will be in effect until (or updated before) Friday, September 27, 2019.
