Canadian International Air Show Kicks Off In Toronto

Saturday, August 31, 2019 kicked off the 70th anniversary for the Canadian International Air Show at the Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto.

Although aeronautic performances had been featured at the CNE on-and-off since the First World War in the second decade of the 19th Century, it wasn’t until 1949 that the first annual Air Show was established.

It’s now the largest and longest running Air Show in Canada with more than a million people throughout the Greater Toronto Area watching the spectacular aerial display each year.

This year the CIAS features aircraft from each of the seven decades.

A special appearance by the Royal Air Force Red Arrows kicked off the show at noon.

Also featured were the MIG 15, Pitts Special, Canadian Beech 3NM Expeditor, USAF A-10, Yak 50 (piloted by a 77-year-old), CF-18 Hornet, RCAF CH-146 Griffon helicopter, Royal Air Force A400M (Airbus), RCAF CH-148 Cyclone and the pride of Canada, the Canadian Forces Snowbirds in their CT-114 Tutor.
