Cobourg Tae Kwon Do Club Earns Top Medals At International Sports Karate World Championships

The Cobourg Tae Kwon Do Club came home with a number of medals from the 2019 ISKA US Open World Championships and WBA World Championships held in Orlando, Florida.

The International Sports Karate Association and World Breaking Association was held on July, 4-6 at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort.

Master Jonathan Field (middle) came in first in his category for the WBA World Championship and fourth for the ISKA World Championships.

Stacey Veenhof (right) won two WBA World Championships as well as one US OPEN Championship

Athena Matthews (left) came in first for for her category in the WBA World Championship.

The trio brought home numerous 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place medals as well in various martial arts events.

This was Master Field thirteen trip in a row to the US OPEN. He has won 12 World Championships in that time and has coached numerous of his students to win numerous World Championships.

This was the first time for Stacey and Athena to travel down to the ISKA and WBA World Championships. Placing in the top four in their divisions is a big accomplishment said Fields, “let alone winning a few of their divisions like they did.”

The US OPEN is the World’s Most prestigious martial arts tournament in the world with competitors coming from all around the world to compete. Various events include Forms, Weapons, Sparring, Self Defense, Breaking, Grappling, and Mixed Martial Arts.

The ISKA World Championships Finals were broadcast live on ESPN2 on Saturday July 6th.
