Cramahe Township Explains How The New County Recycling Will Work

In Local

CRAMAHE TWP. — A new recycling system starts this September 2. There will be three bins into which to sort your recyclable goods.

To learn first-hand how the new system works and see what the new containers being delivered (free) to your home in the next month look like, come to a demonstration 6 p.m. Monday, July 29 at the Keeler Centre in Colborne.

The new system is as follows:

• A blue bin is for household containers only: plastic bottles, jugs and containers; metal and aluminum cans and foil and empty aerosol cans; cartons, juice boxes, take-out cups WITHOUT lids; glass bottles and jars.

• A grey bin of for household papers and paper packaging only: magazines and soft cover books, office paper and envelopes; boxboard (e.g. cereal boxes); and flattened corrugated boxes.

• A green bin will be used for kitchen food scraps including veggies, fruits, meats, dairy and egg products, pasta and grains; paper plates, napkins and towels (no facial tissues); tea bags, coffee grounds and filters; pizza boxes, waxed paper, paper bags, take-out trays and containers.
Inside the green bin will be a kitchen catcher to keep in the kitchen. Recyclable container liners are recommended.

You can continue to bag your plastic bags in a separate clear bag. Also, shredded paper will be accepted if contained in its own clear plastic bags.

Other garbage will continue to be required to be placed in a plastic bag with a Northumberland County waste tag affixed.
