Cobourg Pride Well Done – Bureau Says

In City Hall

Cobourg Councillor Adam Bureau commended the town on a Pride Month launch well done at this week’s council meeting.

On June 3, a double raising of the Pride flag (in front of Victoria Hall and the police station) and the unveiling of the Pride Crosswalk at King and Second Street was a booming success, Bureau declared.

Facebook followers reached more than 77,000, he said, and more than 200 supporters showed up in person.

“The best part was when my daughter came home from Sudbury with her girlfriend – to see the happiness in her eyes, to see the acceptance, no animosity. It was amazing. I have never seen her happier.

“Good job, Cobourg – thank you,” Bureau said.

Councillor Brian Darling commended Prime Pavement Markings for getting the Pride Crosswalk painted and ready on such short notice. The public-works department will look at that initiative, and report to council on the costs and feasibility of keeping the Pride Crosswalk in place year-round.
