A “Ride for Radiul” was held on Saturday, June 8, 2019 starting at Northumberland Mall in Cobourg.

Four-year-old Radiul Chowdhury was struck by a motorcycle in Toronto on May 26, 2019 in Toronto leaving him with critical injuries.

The driver and passenger on the motorcycle fled the accident, but have since been arrested and charged.

The ride on Saturday was organized by motorcycle riders, Joyce Lichtenberger to let Radiul and his family know that not all motorcyclists are bad.

Lichtenberger said, the “motorcycle rider thought that not getting arrested was more important than helping him.”

A donation was also taken up and will be delivered to the family at Sick Children’s Hospital in Toronto.

“We want to show the family that’s not what motorcycle riders are.”

“Riders are very family oriented, we follow the rules of the road, are into safety and we are definitely into taking care of each other.”

The ride consisted of travelling around Rice Lake stopping at various locations.

“This is a solidarity ride that hopefully shows the family that riders are good people and we want him to get well.”

Lichtenberger came up with the idea mid-week, but the response has been tremendous with the number of donations and motorcycles appearing at Northumberland Mall.

“I tend to lead with my heart and wanted to do something special for the boy not thinking a lot about particulars such as routes.”

Lichtenberger rides with a group of women called the “Throttle Knockers” who have been instrumental stepping up to help with the organization of the ride.

A total of 82 motorcycles raised $850 for the family
