Northumberland County – New App Launches In Support of Personal Emergency Preparedness

In Local

In recognition of Emergency Preparedness Week, taking place May 5 to 11 across Ontario, Northumberland Emergency Management Coordinators are pleased to launch a new smartphone app designed to help community members improve their personal preparedness.

“This useful tool includes simple steps that people can start taking today to make sure they are prepared to be self-sufficient for up to 72-hours in the event of an emergency,” states Northumberland County Community Emergency Management Coordinator Ken Stubbings.

“By gathering supplies and working on an emergency plan with families and neighbours, Northumberland residents will be better prepared for the unexpected.

In turn, first responders can focus their attention on the most critical issues in the initial stages of an emergency.”

The Northumberland Emergency Preparedness App, available at no cost, includes tips and tools such as:
· A Family Emergency Plan template
· Checklists for building a 72-Hour Emergency Kit, a Pet Emergency Kit and a Car Survival Kit
· A list of potential local hazards and how to respond to each one
· Information about evacuations and ‘Shelter-in-Place’ orders
This app is available through the Apple App and Google Play stores by searching for ‘Northumberland Emergency Preparedness’. Emergency preparedness information is also available at http://Northumberland.ca/BePrepared.
