Breaking News – Second Suspicious Fire In Roseneath Causes Major Damage To Building

In Editor Choice, Local

The second suspicious fire has caused major damage to a structure in Roseneath on Tuesday, March 26, 2019.
At approximately 11:12 p.m. Alnwick/Haldimand Township firefighters responded to County Road 24 just east of County Road 45 after a resident called 9-1-1 reporting a structure fire to a neighbouring building.

“Even prior to us arriving on scene we had reports of a confirmed structure fire with the back of the building fully engulfed in flames, possibly spreading to the grass in the area,” said Alnwick/Haldimand Fire Chief Mark Diminie.
A real estate office was on the first floor and the second floor was vacant.
“The initial crew on scene reported a working structure fire. Right away they went into a offensive attack. They knocked the fire down at the back of the building. It progressed into the structure in a couple of different areas and the firefighters did a good job containing the fire to those areas.”

The fire is deemed suspicious and the Ontario Fire Marshal has been called.
Just over a week ago a fire destroyed a home that was for sale just a few doors down at approximately the same time in the evening.
“We do have some reports from neighbours who heard commotion outside, so she came out into her driveway and thought she saw a orange glow from the house next door.”

Upon further investigation the neighbour discovered flames and quickly called 9-1-1.
Diminie said his advice for area residents is to be vigilant.
“Keep an eye open, especially at this time of night. Pay attention to people going up and down the streets, and keep combustible materials to a minimum outside.”
Damage is estimated at approximately $300,000.
