Northumberland OPP – Suspected Impaired Drivers Charged

This past weekend officers from the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charged two drivers with alcohol related offences.

On Friday March 22, 2019 just before midnight officers responded to a single vehicle collision on County Road 45 just north of Danforth Road in Hamilton Township. The grey Ford sedan was travelling southbound when it was observed going into a ditch and flipping over. The female driver was not injured but was found to be under the influence of alcohol. Sarah KING (age 22) of Grafton, Ontario was arrested and charged with:
· Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
· Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
She was released and is scheduled to appear in Cobourg Court on April 17, 2019.

On Sunday March 24, 2019 at approximately 5:15 pm officers responded to a report of a dark colored pick-up truck that drove through a stop sign and continued to drive in an erratic manner on Danforth Road West in Hamilton Township. Eric Basil GIBSON (age 26) of Hamilton Township was arrested and charged with:
· Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
· Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
· Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
He was released and is scheduled to appear in Cobourg Court on May 8, 2019.

Highway safety is a shared responsibility. If you choose to consume alcohol or drugs, the OPP encourage you to plan ahead to ensure that yourself and others that may be travelling our roadways arrive home safely.
