The Town of Cobourg is issuing a challenge to residents to roll up their sleeves for a special kind of spring cleaning – picking up litter around the community a a Pitch-In Canada project.
This nationwide environmental conservation initiative runs from April 22 to 29. The 2018 edition saw 685 residents pitch in – individuals as well as community groups, organizations and schools – to clean up parks, trails, residential streets, harbour area, beach front and open spaces.
The initiative also provided a way to offer students some hands-on learning opportunities, the town’s press release noted.
To accept the challenge, only three steps are required: organize your clean-up group, choose your clean-up location, and register your group at http://bit.ly/2Fhn6g2. The town will provide gloves, safety vests and garbage bags to all participants.
You can also register on-line if you have some free time for the April 27 annual community pitch-in day. Meet at 9 a.m. in the Victoria Hall lobby to pick up your gloves, safety vests and garbage bags.
This is also the day the Northumberland County Material Recovery Facility (280 Edwardson Rd., Grafton) holds its annual free barbecue to celebrate residents’ hard work on this project. There will be prizes, games and activities for the kids, and tours will be conducted around the facility.
The town thanks its supporting partners – Northumberland County, Tim Hortons Canada and Pitch-In Week Canada – and extends special appreciation to all its citizens for continuing to keep Cobourg clean and green.
