Municipality of Port Hope Special Council Meeting Called Re: 65 Ward Street

On Wednesday, March 13th the Municipality of Port Hope received the report from the Conservation Review Board with respect to the heritage designation of 65 Ward Street. The report was immediately placed on the municipal website with all other related information to this matter. The report was also sent directly to all parties to the hearing, the property owner, and all registered objectors to the designation.

The report from the CRB can be viewed in its entirety http://porthope.ca/news/65-ward-street-update Mayor Bob Sanderson has called a Special Council Meeting for 6:30 pm on Tuesday, March 26th in order to allow for consideration of the report by Council. An agenda for this meeting will be published by March 22nd. Further details will be provided at a later date.

Background: At a Special Council meeting held on April 11, 2018, Council passed a motion directing the Municipal Clerk to publish a Notice of Intention to Designate the property municipally addressed as 65 Ward Street, as being of cultural heritage value or interest. During the 30-day notice period that followed, objections to the Notice were filed with the Clerk and in accordance with the Ontario Heritage Act the matter referred to the Conservation Review Board (CRB) to commence a formal hearing process. The hearing process is now complete, and in accordance with the Ontario Heritage Act the CRB has submitted its final report and recommendation to Council for their consideration.
