Cobourg council voted at this week’s committee-of-the-whole meeting to award the tender for the Elgin Street Multi-Use Path to IPAC Paving Limited in the amount of $170,402.54, excluding HST.
The project was initiated as a result of an Ontario Municipal Commuter Cycling funding opportunity, said the report from manager of engineering and capital project Terry Hoekstra. Successful award of $202,855.50 under this funding opportunity was followed by the town securing the support of Northumberland County to match the $20,000 it was putting up.
The project involves a three-metre-wide asphalt multi-use path on the south side of Elgin between Strathy Road and Willian Street, and from Division Street westerly 60 metres to connect to the existing multi-use path.
The Elgin Street estimate is a very big amount, Deputy Mayor Suzanne Seguin pointed out, wondering if it’s in the department’s budget.
“This is actually last year’s budget – we got funding for it and it was within our budget,” director of public works Laurie Wills said.
