Northumberland County – Please Keep The End of Culverts Clear of Snow

In Local

With snow in the forecast over the next couple days, Northumberland County would like to remind residents to avoid shoveling snow over the ends of culverts, which blocks the flow of water through ditches and can cause flooding.
“Our roads operations team works hard to keep County roads safe for commuters during winter weather,” states Transportation, Waste and Facilities Director Mobushar Pannu. “Ensuring culverts are clear of snow will prevent flooding, and enable the County to direct resources to the clearing roadways and other priority maintenance activities during weather-related operations.”
To avoid flood damage to homes, and to maximize the use of roads operations resources during weather events, residents are asked to please ensure the ends of culverts are free of snow.
