Municipal Animal Services To Release Statement Regarding Euthanized Dog

In Local

The Municipal Animal Services stated they will be releasing a statement regarding a dog that was euthanized at the facility.
On January 12, 2019 Today’s Northumberland released a story about a dog who was in the care of the Municipal Animal Services on Theatre Road had been put down.
Sherry Gibson, Chair of the MAS which governs animal services in Cobourg, Port Hope, Alnwick/Haldimand Township and Hamilton Township stated a reply will be forwarded by the end of the day (January 14, 2019) on behalf of the Board and Municipal Animal Services.
Previously Gibson stated, the dog was euthanized because it “was determined to be in the best interest of the dog and the public,” but would not say if the dog had bitten anyone or was aggressive.
A person who had been in contact with the dog contacted Today’s Northumberland stated it wasn’t aggressive and they had “hand fed him treats – he would lick them so carefully.”
Checking with the Haliburton Kawartha Pine Ridge District Health Unit for any record of history with the dog and aggressive behaviour, Today’s Northumberland was told it would have to file a Freedom Of Information request to find out the history.
