Weekly Media Release
From the 7th of January 2019- 13th of January 2019, the Cobourg Police Service responded to 158 incidents which included:
2 Mischief calls, 6 Theft calls, 9 Motor Vehicle Collisions, 3 Alarm calls, 2 Domestic Dispute calls, 2 Missing Person calls, 3 Family Disturbance calls, 4 Impaired Driver calls, 7 Suspicious Person calls, 3 Fraud calls, 8 Unwanted Person calls, 2 Suspicious Vehicle calls, 4 Assault calls, 1 Sudden Death call, and 2 Neighborhood Dispute calls.
Here are some examples of calls for service for the week;
January 7th
· Officers responded to a business in the west end after receiving a report of an after the fact theft – Loss Prevention reported that on the 4th day of January 2019, two person were captured on video removing baby formula from the store. The estimated the value of formula stolen to be approximately $2,470. Investigation on going.
· Cobourg police attended the Northumberland County Courthouse at 860 William St. after a remanded prisoner was believed to have caused damage to the sprinkler system causing the cell block area to flood. Other prisoners were evacuated from the cell area to the prisoner transport bus. Cobourg Fire and Northumberland County Building Maintenance attended and the building was deemed safe and reoccupied a short time later. The prisoner will be facing additional charges of Mischief.
January 8th
· Motor Vehicle Collisions- Police attended Workman RD. & Elgin St. E. upon report of a single vehicle MVC involving a marked Port Hope Police cruiser. A number of other vehicles including a Cobourg Fire Truck and Cobourg police cruiser were involved in subsequent minor collisions responding on the icy roadway. One minor injury only.
· Missing Person- A female age 45 had been reported missing from her mother’s residence in the East end of Cobourg and caused Police and family to have concerns for her safety as she had been out of the residence all night and had no known place where she might be. The female returned to the residence the following day.
January 9th
· Cobourg Police responded to a report regarding the unknown whereabouts of 81 year old male. The elderly male who suffers from cognitive issues due to dementia had reportedly left his residence sometime between 23:00hrs on Tuesday the 8th day of January 2018 and 05:30hrs on the 9th day of January. Officers in partnership with Cobourg Fire searched the area extensively – Cobourg Fire later located the involved male laying on west beach in close proximity to the shoreline – the male was transported to Northumberland Hills Hospital for further medial follow up. Officers later learned the male is expected to fully recovery.
· A female attended the Cobourg Police Station to report being assault by her domestic partner earlier on this date, at their residence. The male was later located and arrested for the offence of domestic related assault. The male was held in custody for the purposes of a show cause hearing scheduled for 10 January 2019.
January 10th
· An unlocked vehicle was entered sometime overnight and a wallet was taken from the vehicle. When the complainant called the bank to cancel his credit cards he was advised that one of his cards had already been used at a local business. At approximately 1625 hours, Police were called to a local business and advised that the same male was on scene attempting to use the stolen credit card. Thomas Palmisano was arrested for Theft of Credit Card, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime and on an outstanding warrant held by our Service. He was released on a PTA/OIC undertaking.
· Unwanted Person – Police were called to Transition House 10 Chapel Street at 0345 hrs. upon report of an unwanted person attempting to gain access to the building. The female was gone prior to police arrival but later located by police and identified.
January 11th
· At approximately 16:45 hrs. a female suspect attended a local pharmacy and took $20 worth of feminine products. The complainant contacted police after reviewing the surveillance footage and identifying the suspect. Police have ascertained the female’s identity and are continuing the investigation.
· Stolen Vehicle- Police attended a Frei St. address upon report of a vehicle being stolen out of the driveway sometime between 8-11 pm 11 January 2019. Police obtained some suspect information and sent out a Zone alert and the vehicle was later recovered in the Toronto area.
January 12th
· Police received a call to attend a Division Street address regarding unknown trouble. Upon arrival police entered the business to find a female inside out of control yelling and threatening police. The female left the business ran across Division almost getting hit by a vehicle. Police apprehended her under the Mental Health Act and transported her to Northumberland hills Hospital for assessment.
· Family Dispute- Police attended a residence upon report that a homeowner was unhappy with her sons drinking and him not going to rehab. The complainant advised that her son was sleeping upon police arrival. The complainant did not wish to wake him but was given advice to help resolve future disputes.
January 13th
· Police were called to a Darcy St. residence regarding a family dispute. Upon arrival police spoke with a youth and his adult relatives in regards to some ongoing relationship issues. The youth left the residence after being picked up by his parent and advice was given to all parties.
· Police were notified of Mischief done to a Ford F-150 pick-up truck while parked in a West end driveway. The pickup had all four tires punctured sometime overnight. Police still currently seeking leads in this matter.
