Person Leaving Restaurant Struck By Car in Cobourg

A person was struck by a vehicle as he was leaving a restaurant in Cobourg on January 4, 2019.
At approximately 8 a.m. emergency services attended Home Plate Restaurant on Elgin Street West.
Initially emergency services were told that a person was unconscious after being struck by a car.
Witnesses told Today’s Northumberland a vehicle with two women was pulling slowing into a parking spot in front of the restaurant when it suddenly accelerated, mounting the curb and striking a man who was just leaving the restaurant. The vehicle struck the building and continued on, striking a hydrant before coming to a stop.
A number of people inside the restaurant saw the vehicle mount the curb and thought it was going to come through the glass doors into the building.
Patrons sitting closest to the door immediately took evasive action.
The person was conscious when he was taken to hospital by paramedics. The driver of the car was also taken to hospital with minor injuries.
