Cobourg Begins 2019 Budget Process and Engages Public to Participate

In City Hall

Public encouraged to participate by attending Public Budget Meeting and to provide feedback.

The Town of Cobourg is in the process of preparing its 2019 Municipal Operating & Capital Budget (including Police and the Library) and is inviting citizens to attend the Public Budget Meeting in order to share ideas on municipal service priorities and how they would like to see municipal tax dollars spent.

The Public Meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday, January 14, 2019 in the Council Chambers at Victoria Hall, 55 King Street West. The agenda will be published on the Town of Cobourg’s Civic Web portal http://cobourg.civicweb.net.

The process for reviewing the Municipal Budget begins in October when the Management Team reviews their respective department’s preliminary budget numbers. The Budget Committee, consisting of the Chief Administrative Officer, Deputy Mayor and Treasurer then review the proposed budget and invite citizens to provide their feedback before a submission to Council for review. The budget review process will allow for more consultation between departmental budgets with a weeks’ time given to each for discussion.

How to Provide Feedback
Input and submissions for the Public Budget Meeting can be provided in the following ways:

1. Emailing Deputy Mayor Suzanne Séguin at sseguin@cobourg.ca.
2. Attending the January 14, 2019 Public Budget Meeting in person and/or by making a presentation to Council*.
– *If you wish to make a presentation to Council please submit your written submission
to Municipal Clerk Brent Larmer at 905-372-4301 or email blarmer@cobourg.ca.
– Each presenter will be allotted 15 minutes.

The input provided will help inform the Town of citizen priorities for programs and services for the upcoming budget year. Citizens are highly encouraged to participate by attending upcoming Community Council sessions.

Dates are still to be determined for the Special Council Budget session and the final approval by Council of the Municipal Budget which will take place at a Regular Council Meeting. All upcoming Budget dates will be posted on the Town’s Municipal website http://cobourg.ca once they are determined.

All open public meetings are scheduled to take place in Council Chambers in Victoria Hall and will also be broadcast live on the Town’s YouTube channel (http://www.youtube.com/user/TownCobourg).
