Joint Forces Weekend RIDE in Northumberland County

In Local, Photo Gallery

Police services across Northumberland County participated in a weekend R.I.D.E. program.
On Saturday, November 10 and Sunday, November 11, 2018 members of Northumberland OPP, Port Hope Police and Cobourg Police joined forces to combat impaired driving.
Officers including Special Constables and Auxiliary officers set-up at various locations including the William Street underpass in Cobourg, Mill Street South in Port Hope and both on and off-ramps of Highway 401 in Cobourg and Port Hope.
Northumberland OPP Constable Jeff Laporte said, “part of it is alcohol enforcement as usual,” but officers were also enforcing the new cannabis legislation.
Five people were charged on Sunday with having cannabis readily available to the driver which carries a $215 fine.
“It cannot be accessible to the driver.”
“You are allowed 30 grams or less with you, but I would suggest treat it like alcohol and have it out of reach of the driver.”
At least one person was also charged as a suspended driver and another was given a three-day suspension for alcohol.
