(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with 245 incidents this past week, here are some examples:
October 29
· Several long guns were located in the river under the bridge on Anderson Road between Loyalist Road and 4th Line in the Municipality of Port Hope. A male located the guns while working on the bridge and called police. Investigation is continuing.*
· An officer stopped a black SUV on County Road 45 in Alnwick-Haldimand Township after it was measured travelling 132 km per hour. A small quantity of marihuana was seized by the officer. As a result of the investigation a 22 year old male from Brampton, Ontario was charged for speeding under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA), and also charged under the Cannabis Act for driving his motor vehicle with having cannabis readily available.
· Police were required to dispatch a deer after it was found to have been struck by a motor vehicle on County Road 64 east of Boes Road in Brighton. The motor vehicle that struck the deer was not located.
· A blue SUV was stopped on Highway 401 east of Brighton after an officer measured it travelling 142 km per hour. As a result of the investigation a 24 year old male from Scarborough was charged under the Highway Traffic Act for speeding and driving while under suspension. He is to appear at court in Cobourg in December, 2018.
October 30
· A resident who resides on the ground level of an apartment building in Brighton, reported damage to one of the rear facing windows. No entry was gained into the apartment. Investigation ongoing*.
· An officer conducting radar enforcement on Highway 401 in Hamilton Township stopped a black Toyota sedan just before 1:00 am after it was measured travelling westbound at 160 km per hour. The officer spoke with the driver then entered into a drinking and driving investigation. A roadside test was conducted for alcohol consumption using the approved screening device (ASD) resulting in the 47 year old male from Clarington, Ontario receiving a 3- day drivers licence suspension. The driver was charged with stunt driving under the Highway Traffic Act and received an additional 7 day licence suspension. His vehicle was towed and impounded; he is to appear at court in Cobourg in December, 2018.
· A reported abandoned vehicle in Alnwick-Haldimand Township resulted in police investigating a verbal domestic dispute. The involved parties were spoken to then they were separated for the remainder of the evening.
October 31
· Officers attended a residence in Cramahe Township for a family dispute where two male youths were involved in a physical altercation. The males were spoken to and were separated for the remainder of the evening.
· A 55 year old male party from Brighton was arrested and charged with being intoxicated in a public place after being found sitting on the ground near an Ontario Street residence. The male was then rearrested and charged with theft under $5000 after a paramedic reported his coat missing from the storage compartment of an ambulance. The stolen coat was found in the male’s possession at the detachment. The property was returned to the paramedic. The accused was held until sober then released with a date to attend court in December, 2018.
November 1
· A male party called police after being bitten by a dog at a residence he attended for work purposes on Pinewood School Road in Cramahe Township. Police continue to investigate*.
· A female from Cramahe Township reported to police that she had received a debit card and a Visa card in the mail from two separate banking institutions which she never applied for. Further investigation found that a Mastercard had also been applied for that had not yet been received. Investigation continuing*.

Northumberland OPP officers investigated 13 accidental 911 calls/alarms, 24 motor vehicle collisions; 35 traffic related complaints and conducted 9 RIDE programs during this time period.
