Researching Canadian WWI Military Records at Cobourg Public Library

In Upcoming Events

To commemorate the Centenary of the end of the First World War, Cobourg Public Library has invited David Fuller, a Toronto writer/historian with an interest in military history to share his strategies and suggested resources for conducting searches for the war records of Canadian Service men who bravely fought during World War I.

David took up family history research more than 30 years ago, starting with this own family and, years later, moved on to research more than 1200 local men who served in both the First and Second World Wars. He focusses on the veterans of Toronto’s Malvern Collegiate Institute, where his sons were students. In 2012, he joined the Central Ontario Branch Western Front Association, the only active Canadian branch of the world-wide, UK-based WFA, and promptly became the editor of the branch magazine, The Maple Leaf, which he also contributes articles to regularly. David currently has 270 family trees on Ancestry and has written numerous articles on the men and women found in them. He is a regular speaker at the Beach and East Toronto Historical Society, and recently joined the Ontario Genealogical Society’s Toronto Branch.

Topics covered will include: How to get started with your research, what records to consult, what Ancestry. ca has & doesn’t have, and deciphering the records and giving context to the service record.

Registration required. Call 905-372-9271 ext 6210 to register, or register online below.
