The folks raising funds for Ed’s House invite kids of all ages to the Lakeport Power-Thomas Buick GMC Touch A Truck day on Oct. 13 at the Port Hope Fairgrounds.
It’s a family-friendly event in support of the Honouring The Journey campaign to raise funds to build the new Northumberland Hospice Care Centre (called Ed’s House in honour of Ed and Diane Lorenz).
Come to the Town Park Recreation Centre at 62 McCaul St. between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. for an up-close look at more than 30 vehicles – a snow plough, farm equipment, dump trucks, excavators, emergency-response vehicles, tree spade, stone-slinger machinery, to name a few.
And, the press release said, you should feel free to touch.
Younger members of the family are invited to enjoy the Cobourg Police Services Safety Village, along with a number of other children’s activities, plus three furry surprise guests who will be on hand from noon to 2 p.m. that you won’t want to miss.
Organizers are grateful to the Rotary Club of Port Hope and Ruby’s Cotton Candy for supporting the event in offering food for purchase such as drinks, burgers, hot dogs, cotton candy and other delicious refreshments.
“Touch a Truck is a popular event for families and children,” Ed’s House special-eventse chair Nancy Oliver said in the press release.
“We are thrilled with the response to the event and thank all our sponsors and local businesses, plus emergency services that are providing vehicles, and we are looking forward to a wonderful day of family fun.”
Ed’s House, to be located north of Highway 401 on Ontario Street in Hamilton Township, will offer around-the-clock hospice palliative care at no cost to individuals and their families. The centre will also serve as a base for the current programs provided by Community Care Northumberland’s team of specially trained professionals and volunteers.
And you can help make it happen just by touching a truck.
Admission to the event is $5 per person (with children under two admitted free).
