UPDATE – Peterborough Police Homicide

A 73-year-old Peterborough area man has been arrested and charged with the first degree murder of his 70-year-old wife following an incident in the Home Depot parking lot.

Shortly after 8 a.m. this morning (Aug. 22) the Peterborough Police Service, Peterborough Paramedics and Peterborough Fire Services attended the Home Depot in Peterborough in response to a report of gun shots in the parking lot.

Once on scene officers located a 70-year-old woman in a vehicle with life threatening injuries. A male located near the vehicle was arrested at that time.

The woman was initially taken to a local hospital then airlifted to a Toronto hospital where she has since succumbed to her injuries.

Charged with first degree murder is a 73-year-old Peterborough area man. He is scheduled to appear in court this afternoon.

We are still in the process of notifying next-of-kin therefore we are not releasing either the name of the victim or the accused at this time.

We offer our most sincere condolences to the family and friends of the victim.

Once again, we would like to thank the members of the public, Home Depot and the other retailers in that plaza for their patience and also offer thanks to those who have come forward to us with information.
