Northumberland OPP Investigate a Homicide
(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – On Saturday August 18, 2018 at approximately 4:15 a.m., officers from the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an injured male at an address on Church Street between Trent River Road and Daley Road, north of Campbellford in the Municipality of Trent Hills.
Officers arrived on scene to find a male suffering from obvious trauma. The male was transported to a local area hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. Two suspects were observed departing from the scene. The victim has been identified as Scott MCDONALD, 43 years-old, of Trent Hills.
The investigation is ongoing by members of the OPP Northumberland Major Crime Unit, OPP Central Region Forensic Identification Unit, OPP Emergency Response Team, and the OPP Canine Unit, under the direction of Detective Inspector Gerald Scherer of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch.
Police do not believe there is any threat to public safety as a result of this incident.

Police are investigating what is believed to be a murder in the Hamlet of Trent River north of Campbellford just off County Road 30 on Saturday, August 18, 2018. Sources have told Today’s Northumberland emergency services were called around 4 a.m. to a residence directly across from the General Store in Trent River. One person was transferred to hospital where he was pronounced dead. Neighbours in the area said they heard at least one gun shot around 4 a.m. Three police cruisers had a large area cordoned off waiting for the forensic unit to arrive. Earlier in the day, tactical officers along with a canine searched the area. It appeared numerous pieces of clothing were located at the back of the residence near the river, but it’s unknown where the incident took place. One neighbour said a man has lived at the residence for a relatively short time and he has a teenage child. The neighbour also said it was common to see a number of people coming and going from the residence. The coroner was at the location for approximately one hour on Saturday, but left the scene when the forensic unit had not arrived. Shortly after noon on Saturday, there were no other police vehicles in the area and a press release had not been issued. There is no word on outstanding suspect/s at press time.
