With the brief, but heavy rain fall over the lunch hour, Cobourg and Port Hope had their share of water problems to contend with. In Cobourg, the Canadian Tire parking lot was flooded making it tricky to head back to your vehicle at times. In Port Hope along Peter Street/County Road 2 in the east end there was flooding along the ditches nearly covering hydrants. Water was so high that it went onto the roadway. Further to the west, water pooled in an area and again, town workers had to block a lane when the water spilled out onto the roadway. Along the CP tracks at Hope Street South the water flooded over the railway tracks which one resident said he’s never witnessed in over 50 years. At Mill Street South and Peter Street a few lanes of traffic had to be shut down as a result of water run off that the storm drains couldn’t handle. Most of Cobourg was without power for approximately two hours as a result of the intense storm. Everyone seemed to navigate the streets even without street lights and there were no reports of collisions.
