Alnwick/Haldimand Township – Van Fire

In Editor Choice, Local

Alnwick/Haldimand firefighters responded to a van fire that was fully engulfed on Thomas Road east of Grafton in a field at approximately 3:30 p.m.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze, but the 2003 van was destroyed.
No word on the cause, but firefighters don’t believe it started from the grass.
In these extremely dry conditions, firefighters do advice to not park any vehicles on dry grass that is approximately six inches.
The heat from underneath the vehicles could ignite the grass and spread to the vehicle.
