Special Council Meeting – Port Hope

In Community, Local

The Municipality of Port Hope held a special Council meeting on Wednesday, April 11, to consider the designation of the property municipally known as 65 Ward Street, under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act. The property is more commonly known in the community as the former Port Hope Hospital.

At the meeting, Council unanimously passed a motion directing the Clerk to publish a Notice of Intention to designate the property municipally addressed as 65 Ward Street, as being of cultural heritage value or interest. The motion also directed that a by-law to designate 65 Ward Street be brought forward for presentation to Council, following a 30-day notice period. Members of the public may file an objection with the Municipal Clerk within the 30-day notice period.

Additional information relating to the full particulars of the reasons for designation is available at the Clerk’s Office, located in the Town Hall at 56 Queen Street, Port Hope.

The meeting agenda, staff report and comments from the proprietor are available on the Council Portal.

Minutes from this meeting will be available, pending approval, at the next regular Council meeting on Tuesday, April 17, 2018, at which point they will become the official record of the meeting.

A recording of the April 11, 2018 Special Council Meeting is available at porthope.ca/council-communications.
