Dangerous Driving/Impaired Arrest:

A 35-year-old Peterborough man is facing several charges including impaired driving, dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of an accident following an investigation.

On the morning of March 5, 2018 witnesses reported a truck driving erratically and unsafely while heading East on Lansdowne Street. The truck was then seen driving at a high rate of speed through a red light colliding with another vehicle. Witnesses reported the driver of the truck made no attempt to avoid the collision or stop. The truck was then seen driving aggressively on Lansdowne Street West between River Road South and Ashburnham Road attempting to pass vehicles by entering lanes of oncoming traffic.

Police then received a call that the truck had gone off the roadway on Lansdowne Street West, jumped a retaining wall and landed in the Otonabee River. Officers arrived on scene and located the suspect truck on the ice of the river.

Through the investigation it was determined that the male driver of the truck was impaired by a drug. The male was taken to a local hospital via EMS for treatment to any injuries.

A 51-year-old Peterborough woman has been charged following a single motor vehicle collision.

On March 6, 2018 at approximately 4:15 p.m. police received a call regarding a single motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Parkhill Road and Monaghan Road. Officers arrived on scene and located the suspect vehicle over an embankment between a convenience store and a dry cleaning store.

Officers then located the female driver of the suspect vehicle coming out of the convenience store. While speaking with the driver officers noted an odour of an alcoholic beverage coming from the driver’s breath.

A subsequent breath sample revealed the driver had more than twice the legal limit of alcohol in her system.

As a result of the investigation Marika Hozleiter, 51, of Highland Court, was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle with more than 80mg blood alcohol content. The accused was issued a 90 day drivers licence suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
