Between Monday the 5th of March 2018 to Sunday the 11th of March 2018 the Cobourg Police Service responded to 204 calls for service including:
11 Alarm calls, 6 Theft calls, 7 Motor vehicle collisions, 9 Suspicious Person calls,4 Assault calls, 4 Harassment calls, 5 Police Information calls, 1 Trespass to Property Act call, 2 Liquor Licence Act calls, 3 Noise Complaint calls, , 7 Motor Vehicle Collisions, 2 Unwanted Person calls, 5 Domestic Dispute calls, 2 Fraud calls,5 Shoplifting calls, 4 Property Related calls, 3 Mischief calls, 3 Mental Health Act calls and 1 Disturb the Peace call.
Here is a sample of the week:
Monday March 5th
· Shortly after midnight Police attended the parking lot of Northumberland Mall upon report of a Fail to Remain accident. Upon arrival police determined that an unknown vehicle had backed into a black GMC Sierra pickup truck and had left the scene. Police are still investigating.
· Police attended a King St.E. Apartment complex in regards to an unwanted male. Police were informed that the unwanted male was not present but was planning to move in against the tenant’s wishes. The male was later located and cautioned by Police. The male agreed he would find another place to move to.
Tuesday March 6th
· Police attended a local store upon report of a quick change scam. Upon arrival police were advised the suspect had made a deliberate attempt to confuse the cashier and as result had received more money back than he was entitled to .Police believe this was the same male involved in a similar scam the next day at a different retailer. The suspect was described as a male with an off-white complexion, sporting a thin goatee, approximately 5’8”, 150 to 160 lbs., wearing a brown Gucci ball cap, a black spring jacket, light blue jeans and spoke with a heavy accent.
· Police attended a local high school upon report of a student receiving threatening messages over social media .Police determined none of the messages indicated personal information. The student blocked the user and advised she immediately notified authorities. Police provided the student with online safety information and internet safety advice.
Wednesday March 7th
· Police responded to a senior’s residence after a report of a possible scam involving a person pretending to be from Publishers Clearing House. Police learned that the victim was told he would be receiving a cheque shortly for a large amount of money and was requested to give bank information over the phone. It is believed no information was handed over and there was no financial loss.
· Police were called to solve a neighbor dispute where it was alleged that a neighbor of the complainant had been coming over on a number of occasions and this was unwelcomed behavior. Police spoke with the neighbor who agreed to stop.
Thursday March 8th
· Police were called to the downtown area by a resident reporting her wheelchair was stuck. Police attended and were able to assist by pushing the chair up a ramp.
· Police were called to a West end new home construction site upon report of two youths riding an all-terrain vehicle without helmets on. Police searched the area but were unable to locate the youths.
· Police were called to a long term care facility upon report of a minor physical altercation between to residents. Police determined there were no injuries and no grounds to lay Criminal charges in the matter.
Friday March 9th
· Police attended a Cobourg residence upon report of a family dispute between a parent and son. Police were able to assist in the conflict and the matter was resolved with no further incident.
· . Police responded to a west end address upon report of two suspicious males with unknown papers in hand. Police determined the males to be process servers and the papers were left without incident.
· Police attended a residence upon report of a male having overdosed on an unknown substance. Police stood by while the male received medical attention and was later transported to an area hospital.
Saturday March 10th
· . At about 0116 hrs. police were called to a Division St. business upon report of a possible impaired driver. Upon arrival, police spoke with a male driver. As a result, police believed the male to be impaired by Drugs. He was examined by a Drug Recognition Expert, who confirmed that the male’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by Drugs. A small quantity of Cannabis Resin was also seized. As a result, Cameron Leeds 22yrs.of age was charged with Impaired Care and Control of a Motor Vehicle, Possession of a Controlled Substance and a charge of Failing to Comply with Probation.Cameron Leeds was released on a Promise to Appear, with a first court date on the 28th of March 2018.
· Police attended a local gas station upon report of a suspicious male on foot, entering the store and attempting to shoplift some grocery items. The male eventually left the store, leaving all items on the counter. Police located the male a short time later and issued him a Trespass to Property Act notice.
Sunday March 11th
· Police responded to a resident’s complaint of a Mischief to his property. It was determined that sometime overnight person(s) unknown damaged his flagpole, removed the Canadian flag and has damaged the Bell Canada box located at the end of his driveway. Police are still investigating this incident.
