Second Incident Concerning Small “Explosive” Cylinders (fireworks) In Cobourg

In Local, News, Police Blotter

There has been another incident of “explosive” capsules found on the front lawn of a home in Cobourg.
A Walton Street home was apparently targeted by someone with the fireworks.
On Monday, emergency services were called to the Cornell Crescent area in Cobourg after hundreds of small capsules/cylinders marked “explosives – danger” were found on several lawns throughout the neighbourhood.
It’s believed they had been there for weeks, if not longer.
Emergency services were called and after investigation found a box that solved the mystery.
The capsules belonged to a type of fireworks called Mean Machine.
After seeing the media reports the family on Walton Street realized it was the same types of fireworks found on Cornell Crescent.
They believe the incident happened approximately 10 days ago.
“It was a quiet night and out of no where loud crackling followed by a loud whistle and flashing lights. When I went to the door to see what it was, I saw a car drive away,” said the home owner.
“The next morning we found the cardboard box. I knew what the tubes were on Cornell as soon as I saw them.”
It’s unknown if the two incidents are related, but given the dry conditions in the Spring it’s best to check with municipalities on by-laws concerning fireworks.
“It may be a teenager prank. But it comes with risks,” said the homeowner.
