Drug Paraphernalia Found Along Abandoned Tracks Cobourg

In News

It was a shocking discovery on an abandoned set of railway line in Cobourg on Friday morning.
Mike Defosse (age 39) said he got a call from his 19-year-old son Jakob who happened to be walking along the old set of railway tracks east of Ontario Street and west of Buchanan Street around 10 a.m. and made a shocking discovery of needles and other drug paraphernalia.
“Immediately I wanted to go see how bad it was and make sure no one else had got to it.”
The discovery near the east side of the railway by Buchanan Street approximately 200 yards east of where 28-year-old Rachel Russell’s murdered body was found on November 12, 2007.
Police had said later Russell died of blunt force trauma.
The case remains unsolved and there is still a $50,000 reward.
Defosse said he notified police who met him at the scene.
When police arrived Defosse and his wife were at the scene.
“My wife said she’ll never forget the look on his (officers) face – it was complete disgust.”
“I couldn’t tell what the substance was for sure, but if I had to guess it looked like heroin.”
“There was needles, alcohol wipes, meth pipes, there was tie-offs, the whole kit was there.”
A backpack was nearby in the snow.
A Naloxone spray was also nearby which is commonly used to reverse the effects of an overdose.
Defosse said the items were along the railway path in the most populated area of the track area and he was concerned for others walking along the popular shortcut.
“My first thought was disgust that stuff was in our community.”
Cobourg Police are investigating the incident.
