A young angler has won top prize for the Walter Oster Junior Anglers Day on July 10, 2021.

Nine-year-old Jakob George from Roseneath took home the top prize for the day in the junior division pulling in a 25.10 pound salmon while he was fishing with his grandfather, Jeff Gill.

Gill said he knew it was a contender so off to the scales they went with the catch and ended up winning the Junior Division of the yearly tournament.

Jakob caught the fish between Grafton and Cobourg and they took it to Cobourg Marina to be weighed.

The event is part of the Great Ontario Salmon Derby while Gill enters every year.

Jakob won a $1,000.00 along with a trophy.
