Northumberland Today looked into protocols of The Warming Hub and Transition House if someone goes against the rules.
On Tuesday, October 31, 2023 Cobourg Police responded to The Warming Hub for an altercation between a security guard and a individual.
A 45-year-old man was arrested and charged with assault and was released from custody on a undertaking for a future court date.
While not speaking specifically and only in general terms, Rev Neil Ellis, who is Board Chair and Acting Executive Director for Transition House Shelter and The Warming Hub stated, “a client may face either temporary or permanent service restrictions at either Transition House Shelter or the Warming Hub as a last resort, to address cases such as incidents or behaviours involving violence, danger to others, or the violation of significant service rules.”
Rev. Ellis said where restrictions are imposed for The Warming Hub, “the client may nevertheless have access to services at Transition House Shelter and vice versa, depending on the nature of the restriction.”
“Where restrictions are in place for both locations, clients are encouraged to access diversion supports through Transition House Shelter, to explore alternatives to emergency shelter accommodations that may temporarily or permanently resolve their sheltering needs”
