The Municipality of Cramahe Township announces the appointment of Matt Halmasy as Fire Chief as of Sept. 5.
Currently the township’s Deputy Fire Chief, Halmasy has 24 years of fire-service experience – starting as an Alnwick-Haldimand Fire Rescue firefighter, rising to the rank of Captain and, in 2019, being named Cramahe’s Deputy Chief.
He is a member of the Northumberland County Fire Chiefs Association and past member of the Northumberland County Training Association, as well as an instructor for Eastern Ontario Emergency Training Academy.
“I look forward to my new position as Fire Chief and serving the community in Cramahe Township,” Halmasy said in the press release (which noted his extensive certifications and experience).
Current Fire Chief Mark MacDonald – with more than 30 years of municipal and provincial fire-service experience – is facilitating this transition within Cramahe’s volunteer fire department as he assumes a position with the Provincial Fire Association.
“The Municipality greatly appreciates the contributions and experiences Chief MacDonald has contributed to Cramahe Township and Northumberland County, not only in the Fire service but also as acting Cramahe CAO,” the announcement said.
“He provided exceptional leadership in recent weather and Fire emergencies.”
Halmasy’s transition to his new duties begins Monday, Aug. 21.
