The West Northumberland Wild won the Ontario Women’s Hockey Association U11 B provincial championship Sunday afternoon in Toronto.

Evelyn Semlitch, assisted by Reese Lewis, scored the lone goal 17 seconds in and goaltender Addley McCullough was outstanding in earning the shutout as the Wild blanked the Carleton Place Cyclones 1-0 in the championship final.

Semlitch also scored in overtime to give the Wild a 1-0 win over the North Durham Blades in the morning semifinals.

Earlier in the tournament, West Northumberland earned wins in round-robin play over the Ilderton Jets, Caledon Coyotes, and Sault Ste. Marie before eliminating the Saugeen Shores Storm in the quarterfinals.

Wild U11 B players are Maelle Appleman, Mya Binkley, Haylee Brooking, Zara Caletti, Greta Coyle, Blythe Crowley, Isabella Gillard, Presley Giroux, Aliviah Harmon, Audrey Leismaster, Reese Lewis, Annemieke Loohuizen, Addley McCullough, Evelyn Semlitch, Blakely Simpson, Alia Smith and Madeline Walker. The staff includes head coach Adele Appleman, assistant coach Chad Leismaster, trainers Ryan Binkley, Jeff Crowley, Hope Giroux and manager Kim Walters-Caletti.

In junior C hockey, the first two games of the Provincial Junior Hockey League’s Eastern Conference final between the Port Hope Panthers and Clarington Eagles have been announced. Clarington will host the series opener Thursday night at 7:25 with Game 2 scheduled for Saturday night at 7:30 at the Jack Burger Sports Complex in Port Hope.

The rest of the schedule is expected to be announced early this week. The Eagles announced Port Hope will have home-ice advantage as a result of a coin flip, meaning the Panthers will host as many as four of the seven possible games. Now that teams have won their respective divisions, regular season records no longer apply when determining playoff seeding.

In Ontario Hockey League playoff action Sunday, Port Hope’s Owen Beck and the Peterborough Petes edged the Ottawa 67’s 2-1 to even that Eastern Conference semifinal at one game apiece.

Games 3 and 4 will be held at the Peterborough Memorial Centre on Tuesday and Thursday at 7:05 p.m.

Dalyn Wakely, also of Port Hope, and the North Bay Battalion downed the Barrie Colts 5-2 at home to tie that Eastern semifinal 1-1. The series shifts to Barrie for Games 3 and 4 Tuesday and Thursday.
