Cobourg Police – One Driver Charged with Impaired During RIDE (No Name Released)

In Police Blotter

Cobourg Police Service conducted Festive RIDE over the weekend, made one impaired driving arrest, and issued one three-day licence suspension.

During weekend Festive RIDE checks, Cobourg Police Service members checked 1,100 vehicles, made three roadside breath demands into an approved screening device and issued 11 Highway Traffic Act cautions for a variety of infractions.

On Saturday, December 10, 2022, while conducting Festive RIDE checks at Division Street at Densmore Road, police arrested a driver for operation while impaired and transported him to the police station, where he provided two breath samples into an approved instrument. As a result, the 21-year-old Orono man was charged with the following:

1. Operation while Impaired – Contrary to Section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada

2. Operation while Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus) – Contrary to Section 320.13(1)(b) of the Criminal Code

The accused was released on an undertaking with a future court date.

While conducting Festive RIDE on Burnham Street, police issued a three-day licence suspension to a driver who registered an alert on an approved screening device.

Thank you to everyone who is committed to driving sober. Residents and visitors to the Town of Cobourg will continue to see uniform officers, special constables, and auxiliary members conducting RIDE initiatives throughout the month.
