City of Kawartha Lakes – Patrolling Highways

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON) –  The City of Kawartha Lakes detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) continues to be vigilant while patrolling area highways, as evidenced by several recent traffic stops.

On June 30th, 2018 an officer was patrolling on Killarney Bay Road when a vehicle travelling at 144km/h in the posted 80 km/h zone was observed. The vehicle was subsequently stopped and the driver, Leah Lapointe, 18 years of age, of Lindsay, was charged with racing a motor vehicle, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act (HTA). Lapointe’s driver’s licence was seized and the vehicle was towed from the scene. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay on August 2, 2018.

On July 3rd, 2018 an officer was patrolling on Highway 35 near Golf Course Road when a vehicle travelling at 144km/h in the posted 80 km/h zone was observed.&nbs p;The vehicle was subsequently stopped and the driver, Iqbal Dhindsa, 20 years of age, of Lindsay, was charged with racing a motor vehicle, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act (HTA). Dhindsa’s driver’s licence was seized and the vehicle was towed from the scene. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay on September 6th, 2018.

On July 3rd, 2018 an officer conducted a vehicle stop and the ensuing investigation revealed that the driver, Michelle Carson, 44 years of age, of North Bay, was a suspended driver. Carson was charged with driving while under suspension, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay on August 2nd, 2018.
