Cobourg Police – Operation Impact 2022: Put Your Best Foot Forward

Cobourg Police Service joins police across Canada in encouraging drivers to ‘put the brakes on’ bad driving behaviours’

On Friday, October 7, 2022 marks the beginning of Operation Impact 2022, a national public awareness campaign aimed at making Canada’s roads the safest in the world. By promoting safe driving behaviours, we hope to help prevent collisions, save lives, and reduce injuries on our roads.

The Cobourg Police Service (CPS) is committed to keeping our community roadways safe for drivers, passengers and pedestrians through education and enforcement. CPS has enhanced traffic patrols with the Selective Traffic Enforcement Project (STEP). This month CPS joins police services across Canada to participate in Operation Impact over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

From October 7 to 10, and continuing throughout October, CPS will focus on behaviours that put drivers, passengers and other road users at risk: impaired driving due to alcohol, drugs or fatigue, aggressive or distracted driving, and driving without a seat belt.

This year, our message to residents in our community is to ‘Put your best foot forward’. Drivers are expected to do this by ‘putting the brakes on’ bad driving behaviours. As you prepare to visit family and friends, a reminder to:

• Always Drive sober – plan for a safe ride home or to stay over if you plan to consume alcohol or drugs.

• Give yourself extra time to get where you are going to avoid frustration and reduce the chance of aggressive driving.

• Eliminate distractions by putting your phone away.

• Always buckle up.

Safe and responsible driving is key to keeping drivers, passengers, and pedestrians safe. For more information, safe driving tips, visit the Ministry of Transportation website mto.gov.on.ca.
