On Wednesday, April 20th, the Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge (HKPR) District Health Unit declared a COVID-19 outbreak on the Inpatient Unit at Campbellford Memorial Hospital (CMH) following confirmed cases of hospital transmission.
As a result of the outbreak, visitation to the Inpatient unit has been restricted except for patients in hospital for end of life care. Virtual visitation is still available and encouraged, and family members can reach out to Caitlyn Payne at 705-653-1140 ext. 2212 to set up a virtual visit.
The Endoscopy Suite will also be closed until further notice due to the impact of the outbreak on staffing levels. Services in the Emergency Department remain unaffected at this time and community members in need of emergency care should not hesitate to seek assistance. However, due to higher than normal patient volumes and admission delays as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak, members of the community will experience longer than normal wait times.
Patients attending the ED are permitted to be accompanied by one person, however, given the circumstances, the hospital is asking that only parents/caregivers of minor children, or caregivers for adults who need supportive care, accompany patients to the ED at this time. Patients and visitors are reminded that they must wear a mask at all times within the hospital and visitors are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
Further restrictions or changes may be required as the situation evolves and they will be communicated to the public if they occur.
CMH would like to remind the community that while many public health restrictions have been lifted, COVID-19 is still prevalent in the community and following best practices such as physical distancing, wearing a mask in indoor public settings, staying home when you’re feeling unwell and getting vaccinated is essential in slowing the spread within high risk settings like hospitals and long term care homes.
