House Destroyed By Fire in Brighton

In Local

A Brighton home was destroyed by fire on Tuesday, April 4, 2022.

Brighton Fire Services received the call for a possible structure fire on Lakehurst Street in Brighton, near the entrance to Presquille Provincial Park at approximately 9:10 a.m.

Before arriving on scene, firefighters received several more 9-1-1 calls confirming a house was on fire.

Deputy Fire Chief Andrew Hutchinson said when crews arrived on scene the front porch was fully engulfed in flames and the occupants were out of the home.

Assistance was immediately requested for Cramahe Township Fire Department as flames were quickly spreading to the roof area.

The fire spread through the roof area of the home, which was heavily damaged by the flames and smoke.

After the fire was knocked down, firefighters salvaged several items from the home.

The cause is believed to have been a space heater that was being used to warm the seedlings for planting season on the patio/porch.

Damage is estimated at $500,000.
