Northumberland – Peterborough South MP Visits Colborne Woman Offering His Assistance Bringing Her Family to Canada

Northumberland – Peterborough South MP Philip Lawrence visited a Colborne woman’s home to try and help her bring her family to Canada.

MP Philip Lawrence heard about Ukrainian-born Colborne resident Vladimira Garmazonova-Knott (Mira) after reading Today’s Northumberland’s story.

Mira met her husband, Ethan Knott of Cobourg while attending a bible college in Etobicoke.

The pair were married in Ukraine in 2017, but settled in Colborne.

Since the Russians invaded Ukraine, Mira’s immediate family of eight has fled their home with only the clothes they were wearing and are in currently in Hungary.   But Mira is hoping to bring them to Colborne.

Mira has spent sleepless nights trying to make arrangements on bringing the family to Canada.

For over an hour Lawrence spent time with Mira answering any questions.

Speaking to Today’s Northumberland after the meeting Lawrence said, “it’s really heartbreaking and it’s a story that’s been told all across Canada.”

“If I can get anything from the government in the coming days, weeks and hours it would be for them to put a full court press, to allow as many people as we can to seek harbour here in Canada – either from Afghanistan or Ukraine. There are so many great people that could be benefited by the love and prosperity here in Canada.”

For Mira, it was her first time meeting a politician.

“It was hopeful to hear him speak about potential support. I was surprised that my local government could actually listen to me. It was very comforting to know that I can ask them for help. I hope everything will go smoothly for my family. But I will only be able to sigh with relief once they are here. Until then it’s still very nerve racking and stressful.”
