Sign Aimed At Reducing Speeds Causes Safety Hazard to Drivers in Cobourg

In Local

A Northumberland County wide campaign aimed at drivers to be more cautious while driving seems to have hit the skids in Cobourg.

The “Slow Your Roll” campaign is aimed at reducing driving speeds and for drivers to follow the posted speed limits throughout Northumberland County.

The campaign was designed by the Inter-municipal Public Works Committee and was launched on October 1, 2021.

Large signs have been placed throughout the campaign at various locations throughout the county, but one is Cobourg is attracting attention for a different reason.

A large sign has been placed on University Avenue just east of College Street recently.

But people living nearby who spoke to Today’s Northumberland said the sign actually causes a hazard to drivers.

For vehicles stopped at the top of College Street, the sign blocks their view of oncoming vehicles coming from the east causing a hazard and risk of collision.
