Two Drivers Arrested for Impaired Driving in Cobourg

In Police Blotter

Two drivers were arrested for impaired driving last night in Cobourg.

Despite a RIDE program in operation in Cobourg, the driver of a transport truck behind Northumberland Mall and another driver who was involved in a collision were arrested and taken into custody.

A transport driver was arrested around 9 p.m. behind Northumberland Mall. The transport was towed from the scene.

At approximately 9:45 p.m. emergency services were dispatched to the area of University Avenue West in Cobourg, just west of Margaret Street.

The driver of a vehicle collided with a parked car causing minor damage, but when the vehicle was put in reverse it backed heavily into a tree.

If not for the tree, the vehicle would have went down an embankment and ended up in Cobourg Creek.

A person who had just walked out of their residence noticed the vehicle on their front lawn and called 9-1-1.

The witness told Today’s Northumberland the driver was slumped behind the wheel.

More details to follow.
