(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with 252 incidents this past week, here are some examples:
June 11
· An Officer who was conducting radar/speed enforcement on Highway 401 east of Brighton stopped a motor vehicle travelling 158km/h. As a result an 18 year old male from Belleville was charged with race a motor vehicle with a court date of July 18, 2018 in Cobourg. The motor vehicle was impounded for seven days.
· A motor vehicle that had been reported stolen to Quinte West OPP in May 2018 was recovered in a field on Telephone road in the Township of Alnwick – Haldimand. The registered owner was notified. The investigation is ongoing*
· Officers attended a business on Grand road in Campbellford after it was reported that a theft of flowers had occurred sometime over the weekend. Investigation is ongoing*
June 12
· Officers attended an address north of Cobourg for a domestic dispute in progress. As a result of the investigation a 62 year old male from Hamilton Township was arrested and charged with assault. He was released with a date to attend court in July, 2018 in Cobourg. The name of the accused is being withheld to protect the identity of the victim.
· A Brighton resident reported that she was a victim of an online fraud. A resume was posted on an online job bank site. She received a job offer to be a customer service evaluator. The company sent her a cheque that she deposited into her account. It was stated that a certain amount was her salary and the remainder was to be deposited into another account for the purpose of her assignments. After transferring the funds into a different account it was found the cheque was fraudulent. Investigation ongoing*
June 13
· Officers attended to a report of a domestic dispute in progress in Campbellford. The dispute was verbal only and the parties were separated for the evening.
· Police responded to a report of a domestic dispute in progress in the Bewdley area. Officers arrived on scene and spoke to the parties who appeared to be intoxicated. After the investigation was completed it was found that no criminal activity had occurred. Parties were separated for the night.
· A resident in Campbellford reported that her motor vehicle that was parked in a driveway on Inkerman Street was entered and a wallet was taken. The vehicle was unlocked at the time.
· Police received reports of motor vehicles driving up Kingsley Avenue in Brighton and driving dangerously in Proctor Park several times a day. Officers continue to make patrols of the area.*
June 14
· A female party was charged with mischief after police attended an address in the Brighton area for a report of a domestic dispute in progress. She was released with a date in July to attend court in Cobourg
· Police responded to a report of a domestic dispute in the Trent Hills area. Officers conducted an investigation and it was found that no criminal activity had transpired. Both involved parties were spoken to.
· A noise complaint was reported just before midnight on Curtis Point road in Alnwick- Haldimand Township. Police attended, the guests were spoken to and agreed to keep the noise down and abide to the noise bylaw for the remainder of their stay.
Northumberland OPP officers also investigated 11 accidental 911 calls, 17 motor vehicle collisions, 63 traffic related complaints and conducted 16 RIDE programs during this time period.
