City of Kawartha Lakes OPP – Two Suspects Arrested Following Break-in

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON) –  Yesterday, June 14, 2018 at approximately 5:10 pm officers from the City of Kawartha Lakes Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a call for service in the Pontypool area. An area resident had reported finding two males on his property causing damage. The males fled when confronted by the owner. The owner provided descriptions to the OPP’s Provincial Communications Center.

 

Officers responding to the call arrested one of the involved persons a short distance from the location. The second involved male was arrested after further witnesses spotted him on a nearby trail.

 

Following an investigation, Brandon ROMANO, 18 years of age of Newcastle was charged with the following offences:

  •  Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Cocaine contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA)
  • Mischief Over $5000 contrary to section 430(3) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CCC)
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 contrary to section 355(b) CCC (two counts)
  • Break, Enter a Dwelling House contrary to section 348(1)(b) CCC

 

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay on July 12, 2018.

 

Following an investigation, Mitchell PORTER, 25 years of age of no fixed address, was charged with the following offences:

  •  Mischief Over $5000 contrary to section 430(3) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CCC)
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 contrary to section 355(b) CCC (two counts)
  • Break, Enter a Dwelling House contrary to section 348(1)(b) CCC
  • Possession of Break-In Instruments contrary to section 351(1) CCC

 

The accused has been held in custody pending a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay.
